Originally from Frenchtown, Montana, Brittney Mada is an insatiable reader with a preference for escapist, world-building genres; a voracious linguist having studied Chinese, Spanish, and Russian; a novice seamstress with just enough skill to modify most every article worn; a photographer always on watch for genuine moments of connection; an experimental home chef; and hobbyist fitness buff supported in all endeavors by her husband, cat, dog, family, and community, her people.

CASA has been a part of Brittney’s life since 2018 when she was sworn in as a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate in Missoula. Brittney’s journey into the child welfare system began when she met the child in her case. As they built a bond of consistency, trust, and hope, she found herself deeply immersed in the world of child advocacy. Throughout her participation in the various team meetings, court hearings, interviews, and the hours spent engaging with the child, Brittney gained an appreciation for the diversity of perspectives that ultimately led to a stable and safe outcome for the now exceptional young adult.

Missoula Court House Swearing In 2018

As she continued on her journey as a CASA, Brittney found herself impressed by the volume and caliber of professionals involved in the case. Each professional came to the table with their unique training, education, experience, and recommendations trending toward solutions and actions.

In contrast, Brittney, a newly trained Court Appointed Special Advocate, found her own place in the case where she could explore different outside-the-box ideas and highlight the voice of the child in the case. As an unbound perspective on the case, Brittney witnessed how much of an impact a volunteer Court Appointed Special Advocate could have in the trajectory and outcomes of a case. Brittney was all about making sure her youth’s needs and voice were front and center in the case, pushing for an outcome that truly fit their individual situation.

The professionals involved in the foster care system provide important and powerful work to the communities they serve, day-in and day-out. They see the rawest moments and the most fantastic successes. In ultimate gratitude for those who commit to daily improving the lives of children and families, Brittney herself became a pro bono attorney who now works towards resolutions in complex conflict (including family conflict) for Crowley Fleck’s Pro Bono Program.

Brittney has served on the CASA of Yellowstone County Board of Directors since 2021. Her passion remains with advancing the mission of CASA and working towards brighter futures for children and youth in the foster care system. Brittney looks forward to being a lifelong CASA supporter.
